So…What Would You Do For $5?

It’s a simple concept. What would you be willing to do for $5? Taking a bit of Craigslist, and a bit of Ebay, Fiverr is a community that allows people to advertise things that they would be willing to for a fixed price of $5. Current listings range from the funny (“I will record a 30 second voicemail message for you in the style of an English butler for $5″), to the helpful (“I will answer all your web development questions (php/js/html/css/mysql) for $5″) to the bizarre (“I will mail you a random object from my house (US residents only) for $5″). It looks to be super fun, and for $5 (of which Fiverr keeps $1 as a service fee), it’s cheap fun. (Found on TechCrunch)

CMU’s Skinput Looks Like It Takes MIT’s Sixth Sense To a Different Level

First of, it’s awesome to see Carnegie Mellon (my alma mater) getting some good press (or any press for that matter). CMU Researcher Chris Harrison has developed a device that can attach on your forearm, and using a built in pico-projector it can sense and use your entire arm as an input controller through taps on your skin. While the video is a bit on the dry side, I think the functionality and complexity of controls displayed is very impressive for what looks to be a early stage prototype/proof of concept. It would be great to see this technology miniaturized to the point where it’s just like any other arm band you would wear while working out or like the ones’ used to attach your iPod. New ‘Tron Legacy’ Trailer Spikes Level Of Interest In Movie

Being honest here, while there was a lot of buzz about a new Tron movie, since the clip was shown about 2-3 years back, I always felt that this was either 1.) Never going to make it to release; or 2.) Going to be a small time movie, of little story line or interest. This is honestly the first trailer that I have seen of the movie that disproves both points. The movie has a set release date with Disney releasing the movie in 3D (thanks Avatar for the more expensive tickets) and IMAX 3D, and there looks like there will actually be a really cool setting with a decent plot behind the movie. I know I’ve marked the date in my Google Calendar.

Oh Wait…That’s a Disappearing Pool?

This is sort of ridiculous. The first thing I think of is how slippery that floor will be every time you raise it. The second is how much it reminds me of the set of Cirque du Soleil’s show “O” in Las Vegas with their constantly morphing stage floor as it switches from a large pool to a large floor and every combination in between. The thing is this. For someone who can afford a pool like this, surely their house is large enough for another room that is large enough to use for social gatherings anyway, right? I mean, what other purpose is there to this design. Sure, it’s cool I can adjust the depth of the pool to whatever I want, but why?! (Found by Prerna on Gizmodo)

What An Awesome Mechanical Digital Watch

There are digital watches, and there are luxury watches, but rarely have those two worlds combines in such awesome fashion. Featuring three aluminium or titanium alloy discs-assemblies with 4 discs for the hour, 5 for the minutes and 1 disc for the tens of minutes, the 4N is set to be the first watch by the company of the same name. A scant 16 timepieces will be produced, more than guaranteeing that there are enough people in the world to part ways with their money for this exquisite masterpiece. (Found on Engadget)

New Iron Man 2 Trailer Is Rocking My World

It’s hard to put into words how excited I am to see how awesome this movie can be. Oh, and Audi R8.

Strobeshnik Is The Geekist Clock Of All Time

Using a hard drive platter with cut through numbers, a colon and dash marks, and a perfectly timed strobe light, Svofski has created the geekist clock of all time in the Strobeshnik. It takes a bit of time for the platter to spin up to speed, but around the 43 second mark things get really awesome. (Found on Gizmodo)

Make Your Macbook Stand Out With An Eye-Catching Decal

Honestly, if I wasn’t about to get a new Macbook Pro (Damn it Apple…announce the new models already!), I would totally buy one of these decals. I’m normally against putting stickers on Macs. I mean, they look so clean and amazing just as they are. There are few things that can make the lid even cooler, and while their are some gorgeous full lid decals/skins, I personally really love the work done by etsy member lildecalshoppe. Ranging from the clever (above) to the cute, these decals truly enhance the look of your Macbook Pro. For now, I can just wait for the new model.

Mafia II Trailer = Boom Boom Boom

I have fond memories of playing Mafia when it first came out back in 2004. The gritty open-world aspect of the game was very appealing, and come on, who doesn’t want to be a gangster! So it is with great excitement I introduce Mafia II and their newest trailer titled “Boom Boom Boom”. And I am excited all over again. Compared to the first game, which had 400 pages of screenplay, Mafia II is supposed to have about 700 pages, nearly 2 hours of cutscenes, and is promised to be the darker and grittier sequel to the first one. Awesome.
