If you haven’t been keeping up,Neill Blomkamp has blown minds everywhere with the overwhelming success of his low budget ($30 million) Hollywood directorial debut,District 9. But what people may not know of the former TV commercial director is that this was not supposed to be his debut movie. No. It was supposed to be this little thing you may have heard of,called Halo. Yes. That one. The record-breaking Xbox game franchise turned movie was going to be his debut. But Hollywood wasn’t ready to entrust the Halo name to a nobody. And so it never came to be,other than three short films Blomkamp made while working with Microsoft to promote Halo 3. Mind-blowing stuff for short film, and very reminiscent of his style, given what I saw in District 9.
Advertising has been an interesting field to observe. And it’s hard not to. With the amount of ads the average individual is presented in a day,on TV,on the radio,on the internet,in movies,on buses, billboards and chairs,it’s really hard to not see them. So it becomes really interesting to see how the company is trying to grab your attention. What’s their hook? The bit you will remember next time you are planning to buy soap or shampoo,or a car or computer. Art &Copy is a documentary that delves into this world,by talking to some of the most influential creative people of this century (and last I guess technically).
Starring Jamie Foxx and Gerard Butler,Law Abiding Citizen looks like a decently good and fun movie. It has the typical heart-wrench,which you sort of already know, and it has the twist, which you sort of already know, but the trailer still has me excited. I just wish I knew less about the movie so I could be more excited for it.
I am not totally clear on the story with this movie, but it seems like God is tired of humans, and has sent down evil zombie-like Angels to kill all of us,except for one renegede Angel who is trying to save one pregnant girl whose baby is the salvation to humanity…how did I do summing that up? Still sounds really messed up. From fairly new director Scott Stewart, staring Dennis Quaid and Paul Bettany, the movie is set to come out January 22 2010,I can’t say I am very excited about this movie.
While The Dark Knight was Heath Ledger’s last complete movie,it wasn’t the last movie that he was working on. The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus was another, and last, movie that Heath was working on but had not completed shooting when he passed away. To replace him,or more like fill out the story for film that has not been shot yet,a trio of stars,Johnny Depp,Jude Law,and Colin Farrel, were put together. Multiple shifts in appearance of Heath’s character is a twist that only this type of movie could afford, and it palys it up quite well I think.
The trailer for the super star-studded cast of ‘New York,I Love You’was just released. Set to debut October 16,2009,the movie boasts a very large star cast working with an equally star-studded set of directors to weave multiple love storylines into a single movie. With a hint of Love Actually coming into play,it looks like a very interesting, even amusing movie to watch. No seriously, there are so many people in this movie:Bradley Cooper,Justin Bartha,Andy Garcia,Hayden Christensen,Rachel Bilson,Natalie Portman,Irrfan Khan,Blake Lively,Orlando Bloom,Ethan Hawke,Shia Le Bouf,Maggie Q,Christina Ricci, and I could keep going on. For directors, they have Jian Wen,Mira Nair,Shunji Iwai,Yvan Attal,Brett Ratner,Allen Hughes,Shekhar Kapur just to name a few. Pretty impressive.
Hmm…let me see. Yup. I am excited for this movie. And it’s a movie about vampires. This hasn’t happened for a while. I used to love vampire movies. Interview With The Vampire was great. Blade I and II were amazing. And Underworld. Yeah…that’s about it? After that there have been a few here and there, and then it just got really weird and emo with Twilight,True Blood, etc. So it’s nice to see something a bit more refreshing. Cirque du Freak:The Vampire’s Assistant is a movie about Darren,a bored teenager who is tired of the hum-drum suburban life. Looking for excitment he goes to see a Freak Show, and gets recruited there by Larten Crepsley (played by John C. Reilly),into the life of a vampire. The movie looks like a lot of fun and has me excited for it’s October 23rd 2009 release. HD versions of trailer can be found on Moviefone. (Found on @DannyTRS)
The trailer for Peter Jackson’s latest movie,The Lovely Bones, has been released on Apple Trailers. Based on the novel by Alice Sebold, the movie is about a young girl who is murdered, but continues to watch her family and the killer from heaven. The movie stars Mark Wahlberg,Rachel Weisz and Susan Sarandon among other people. Set to release December 11,2009,this has to be one of the most anticipated movies of the Winter. While I would love to have a streaming version for you all to see directly, right now,the only way is to go to Apple Trailers. (Found on @DannyTRS)
I absolutely loved this book by Rold Dhal as a kid,and am equally excited to see it being made into a movie finally. Voiced by a brilliant set of actors, with George Cloony playing Mr. Fox and Meryl Streep playing Mrs. Fox,the move also has Owen Wilson,Jason Schwartzman, and Bill Murray. (Found on @uncrate)
I am pretty sure the movie is going to have a cheesy story, and ever chessier dialog, but my god,the action sequences in Ninja Assassin look amazing! Set to come out 25th Nov. 2009,the movie stars Naomie Harris,Sung Kang, and Rain (that’s really the guy’s name, you may remember him from Speed Racer).
