Sweet But Totally Improbable Laptop Concept

That is one sweet looking flexible-screen concept laptop. OLED multi-segment screen,a loud speaker, full WiFi and USB ports, not bad at all. If anything the only fault I find is that the vertical device has a wire plugging into the front of the “laptop”. If anything it should be on the back, and honestly,it shouldn’t exist at all (wireless power anyone?). It probably will never come to light, but it’s still fun to dream.

Cufflinks Made With Real Lighters For The Pyro In All Of Us

il_430xN.91910225

There is a bit of pyro in all of us (ok some of us…some more than others). You can keep your Zippo or you can collect matchboxes from restaurants,or you just burning candles and fireworks. So for those of us out there, this is a special creation. Using vintage lighters that were sold in the 50s in gumball machines. These are working lighters with fluid (not included),flint, and a wick (the guy even includes a spare set of flint and wick). How cool would you be if you had a pair of lighters on your sleeves? The Darkest And Blackest Watch I Have Seen Yet

TX_Black_Watch

Being a bit of a watch fan,I’ve seen plenty of Black on Black watches –Bell &Ross being one of a few companies. But for some reason or another,I really think that the black TX 600-Series Pilot Watch is the darkest watch I have ever seen. Retailing at Nordstorm for US$575,this gorgeous watch has a black stainless steel case, adorned with a sapphire crystal, behind which is a sculpted black dial featuring a date,fly-back chronograph and tachymeter. The watch has a black leather band with a buckle enclosure, and the entire thing is waterproof to 100m (10 ATM). Quite impressive. (Found on Uncrate)

and black leather band.

CanvasPop Allows You To Create Your Own Vinyl Prints

3835161842_0426ab39f0

I absolutely love vinyl prints. They are a great, elegant, but striking way to decorate your home and even showcase your work. Back in my old apartment I had a giant vinyl print of New York adorning my living room wall that I got from IKEA (54″x75″),and it was a true eye-catcher. While that was a mass-production print, and hence cheaper,I would love to take some of my own photos and blow them up to full size vinyl prints. CanvasPop is a new online service that allows me to take any photo of mine, and turn it into a unframed or framed vinyl print of a nearly any size (although none go as large as the IKEA one mentioned above). This is awesome. And it’s fairly reasonably priced! It has an easy way to upload your photos, and apply filters to make your photos even more unique. You can even split a single photo into multiple vinyl prints to create a more interesting look to your room. Can’t wait to try it out. (Found on Uncrate)

Gyrobike Is Going To Change How The Next Generation Learns To Ride a Bike

I really think this is an awesome implementation of a gyroscope. By creating a super-steady wheel for a bicycle,it makes it really easy for kids and novices to learn how to balance on a bike, and then gradually reduce it’s assistance (read speed of the gyroscope) until you are balancing on your own. My only concern would be how easy it is to correct a bike’s balance once it starts to fall over? Does it just slow down the fall so you don’t get hurt,or is it still possible to counter the effects of the gyroscope and recover from it easily? Nevertheless,a hell of a lot better than training wheels. (Found on Gizmodo)

Xperia Pureness Is Dressed In Pure Hotness

090903-kiki-01

Oh my. While this concept had been around for a while,I hardly thought it would ever come to production. Sony Ericsson has announced that the concept code-named Kiki, will be coming to the market as the Xperia Pureness, and my does it look nice. Easily taking the fight to Nokia’s 8000 series and knocking it to the ground, this phone is like an art piece. It comes with a transparent display, and a opaque keypad. Specs haven’t been released, but does that really matter? (Found on Engadget)

WoodStation Is a Wooden Weather Station…Interesting

c317_woodstation_weather_display

This is a really interesting little product. I’ve long seen those LCD displays that display the time, date, and weather. They look modern, but cheap. This on the other hand looks really cool. Essentially they look like plain wooden blocks (check the picture below),until a motion sensor detects you close by,turning on the LED display behind the wood. In the display you get the standard date and time,as weel as indoor temperature and humidity. WoodStation will also show one of five weather icons (sunny, partly cloudy, cloudy, rainy or stormy),however,it’s not stated as to how it determines if it is going to rain based on the weather inside your room. Available now from ThinkGeek for US$100. (Found on Uncrate)

Tech21′s iBand Adds Amazing Tech To iPhone/iPod Protection

By using a non-Newtonian substance,Tech21 has created what is in my opinion, the ultimate iPhone/iPod case. There has always been a divide between people who want to protect their iPhone’s from light bumps and scratches with the rubber cases and those who want to protect it from proper drops with the harder plastic cases. Tech21′s iBand with d3o technology takes what looks like a rubber case, but instead of being made from rubber, its made from a non-Newtonian substance. What this means,is that when not under pressure, the case is soft and malleable, but when dropped (or thrown or hit with a hammer),the material immediately hardens and absorbs the full energy of the impact, protecting the device from any damage. Google Starts Crowdsourcing Travel Time For Google Maps

gmm_arterials_z15

Now here’s something I had been waiting for a while to see. A year or so ago, there was a GPS device that came out called Dash that promised to revolutions stand-alone GPS devices. Using mobile internet,it would track the paths you were driving between destinations and the time it took, and then crowd-source that out. Furthermore,it would use the Dash devices to produce REAL real-time traffic reports. The catch being that the company needed the device to hit critical mass and be used widely enough for everyone to be able to reap the benefits.Which was not possible due to it being outrageously expensive. So now it’s interesting to learn Google is looking to implement something similar into their Google Maps to calculate more realistic travel times. Any mobile device with a GPS connection and Google Maps Mobile application will be able to anonymously send location data back to Google, which it can use to calculate traffic and travel time. Brilliant stuff really.
