Little Wheel is a gorgeously rendered flash game that has this WALL-E meets Nightmare Before Christmas look to it. It looks amazing, and is a lot of fun to play. The entire silhouette look against a sunset is really cool, and I just love the animation and movement of all the broken things in the game. (Found on DownloadSquad)
To all those who doubted that Natal worked,Jimmy Fallon (have I told you his show is really fun) had Microsoft over and they demoed Project Natal live on The Late Night Show. Great stuff. For a prototype,it looks like a lot of fun. (If you’re out of the US and can’t see the link,NBC has a video..it’s just a bit lower quality than hulu).
It’s demos like thse that remind me of Arthur C. Clarke’s Third Law:
Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.
This is truely amazing stuff. While you may think this is set up,Kotaku has demoed Milo and reported that they were equally amazed that it was in fact just as responsive and realistic as seen,if not even more amazing. I had read this, but didn’t see the video until just now. The fluidity and emotion display in Milo is just way too realistic. On the flip side, this is the start of AI becoming smart enough to blend into genuine human interactivity…. Skynet/Matrix?
This has to be intentional. The folks at SeriousLunch have spotted that Conan’s new Tonight Show backdrop bears a striking resembelence to the Magic Kingdom. I would have to agree. It fits just way too well. Props to Conan and set designers for going with this awesome design. (Found on Gizmodo)
Ok,so Microsoft blows away E3 and most of the tech/gaming world with their Project Natal on the Day 1 of E3. Day 2,both Nintendo and Sony have press conferences scheduled (in that order),where everyone is eagirly waiting to see how they will respond. What amazing technology will Nintendo, who made motion controllers the big thing with their Wii,and Sony, who have the technological powerhouse in the PS3 to compete against the Xbox, come out with. We waitied to have our minds blown even more. (Thanks Engadget)
I loved the first game, and was one of the few games in recent time that I have actually finished to the end (in the past 3 years…the others are Super Paper Mario,Gears of War,Marvel Ultimate Alliance, and maybe one or two more..). This game,if possible, looks even more awesome than the first.
Microsoft is conducting their E3 presentation right now and have announced a lot of new games (Forza 3,2 new Halo games,Metal Gear Solid, etc),and a bunch of new things for Xbox (Facebook,Twitter,last.fm,1080p netflix video and queue),but the show stealer is absolutely the just announced Project Natal,a new controller interface for the Xbox that is going to out right destroy the competition. It uses a small camera type device to incorporate facial recognition and full body movement and speed to utilize you as the controller. Granted this isn’t the best for all games, but the game types demoed seem fantastic. They’ve already shown a bunch of sport based games, racing, dancing, etc.,and even beyond that are showing features such as chatting with friends or just flicking through your Netflix queue by waving your hand in a swishing motion. It is a new feature that is still being finalized and will work with all existing Xbox consoles out there (yay for no new hardware needs). It can detect who is standing in front of the TV and automatically log you into your account on Xbox Live. Fantastic mind-blowing stuff. I can’t wait for the video to be uploaded. Update:Video added after the break. You have to check this out. Amazing stuff!
The Sims 3 releases tomorrow, and say what you want,I am excited for it. There has always been something about The Sims series (and its ridiculously large collection of expansion packs) that has appealed to me,and the latest iteration the The Sims promises to continue this. With enhanced controls, customization, and things to do,plus the ability to view and roam a neighborhood, this is a game I am going to be getting tomorrow (thanks to Amazon’s free Release-day delivery). Will post a follow-up review once I have the game installed on my Mac tomorrow.
Sony’s near-mythical successor to the PSP has leaked on to the web,and is all but official (wait a few hours.. E3 is about to kick off). Engadget reported over the weekend of pictures and a leaked video of the PSP GO that will attempt to co-exist alongside the PSP. I am not sure how successful that will be,since it’s not like they sure the same gaming media (PSP uses UMD discs, this will apparently allow owners to download games to the device. The GO doesn’t have UMD drive). It’s smaller and lighter than the PSP and,in my opinion, a more Playstion-y look to the controller layout than the PSP did. Regardless,I honestly don’t see a significant enough difference to warrent PSP-owners to go out and buy one of these just yet,but perhaps the official announcement will enlighten us to some unseen feature? I loved LEGO as a kid,and still enjoy pouring my time into LEGOs every now and then (my most recent creation was a LEGO Racers Ferrari F1 1:9). I am also a bit of an architecture fan,and have always been fascinated by Frank Lloyd Wright’s work ever since I discovered it back in 2000. Fallingwater, one of my favorites,is situated just under an hour’s drive from my home (and yet I still have to make the trek to see it). It is essentially a house built over a waterfall, with the water running through the house. As modern as it does look,it was designed way back in 1935,which only makes it more amazin. LEGO,with their new LEGO Architecture brand,is developing a series of LEGO products of his work (Fallingwater and the Guggenheim Museum in NYC). I can’t wait to try my hand at one of these.
