Wow…this is just pure car porn. Without a doubt. The carbon fibre is just so pretty… Did anyone else have one of these growing up? Drool. (Found on @kevinrose) The Geneva Motor Show 2010 has begun, and already car companies are letting loose some amazing designs accompanied with other companies and their “what-were-they-thinking”cars. So far, some of the winners have to be the Porsche 918 Concept, the 2011 Lotus Elise, the 2011 Volvo S6,Audi A1,Peugeot SR1 Concept, and Alfa Romeo 2uettottana by Pinifarina. Two cars that I really want to like but am not sure about the looks is the new Koenigsegg Agera and the Alfa Romea Guiletta. I can’t help but feel that the Koenigsegg looks a bit feminine with the line of LED lights across the top of its headlights, and the Alfa looks a bit too much like an animal’s snout fromt he front. Finally,we have the real failures, mingers as Top Gear would put it. These cars are truly a bit of w-t-f,and a bit of what-were-they-thinking combined. We have the Nissan Juke, the Mini Countryman, and the Mercedes F800 Concept. Eww! Thanks to Autoblog for their excellent coverage and pictures of all the pretty (and ugly) cars. Bugatti has recently unveiled their brand new concept car, dubbed the 16C Galibier Concept. This car is supposed to hint towards what the production version of the 16C Galibier will look like when it is unveiled in its marketable form in 2012. It’s being powered by the same 8.0L engine from the Veyron, but has swapped the 4 turbochargers for 2 superchargers. This power is mated to a gorgeous EIGHT PIPE exhaust system at the back. And here is when you realize the difference. While both the Veyron and the 16C Galibier strive to be the ultimate cars, they are in two different segments. One in the hypercar/supercar segment, while the other in the fast four-door sedan. The lights of the cars are truely breathtaking, sucking you into the soul of the cars through those large eyes. Behind you see the swooping long front hood, with the “spine”running right from nose to tail. Behind the windscreen, you are in a clean but highly luxurious interior. With long wood panels adorning the interior, the 4 bucket seats look so comfortable and accommodating. The final production version of this car is expected to be priced at a cool US$1.6 million. Ouch. Lexus’oft-rumored highly leaked and conceptualized LF-A supercoupe is finally coming to production. 65% of the body of the car is carbon fibre, allowing the 4.8 liter V10 560 hp 354 lb-ft engine to propel the car from 0-62 mph in just 3.7 seconds and hit a top speed of 201.94 mph. Production is going to be limited to just 500 units,so I am sure the price is going to astronomical. However, stepping back from the specs,I really can’t say I love how the car looks from the front. It looks normal, even boring, from the front. The back looks great from most angles, but there are some really bad angles that make the large black triangles look even larger. Thoughts? (Found on Autoblog) Through a race of attrition, and the most drama I have seen in 1/2 in the first lap that I have ever seen,Jenson Button has emerged as World Champion with his 5th place finish at the 2009 Formula 1 Brazilian Grand Prix, bringing along with him the Constructor’s Championship to Brawn GP,one of many F1 history firsts that were accomplished this past weekend. The drama really stared with torrential rain on Saturday during a record-setting 3 hour qualifying session, where the usual suspects for the top five to 8 positions were found qualifying in 14th (Button),16th (Vettel) and 18th (Hamilton). Following this was the drama filled first lap which saw Trulli go off in a track taking Sutil with him,who in turn took out Alonso. Trulli was then seen immediately running up to Sutil’s crashed car where aggressively confronted Sutil for causing the crash. While this may or may not be true,Trulli was fined after the race for US$10,000 for his behavior. Following these incidents, the safety car was brought out. Through the first few corners, both Kovalainen and Raikkonen were involved in racing incidents which caused them to pit. Heikki however, was let go to early, and proceeded to rip out the fuel hose while the car was still being fueled (a-la Massa in Singapore 2008). He proceeded to spill fuel through the hose down the pit straight, where Raikkonen’s Ferrari caused the fuel to ignite in a brief but entertaining ball of fire. And that was all in just the first lap! The face ended with Webber taking the chequered flag, however,it’s Button who is the one really celebrating after setting F1 history by becoming a driver at a new F1 team to win both the Driver’s and Constructor’s Championships. Mercedes, who powers the Brawn team, and is rumored to be interested in becoming a larger partner with the team next season, were thrilled by this. Norbert Haug,VP of Mercedes Motorsport, has a gem of a quote,“For the second year in a row,car number 22,driven by an Englishman and powered by a Mercedes-Benz engine has finished fifth in Brazil to win the world championship – what an amazing list of coincidences”. (Found on F1-Live) Above is the product of a Russian design student working with coachbuilders Zagato on a concept that revives the Iso Rivolta nameplate to produce the Marella concept, with a Corvette ZR1 engine in the front pushing it from behind with its 640 bhp V8. Citreon has made some poor cars, but it has a couple gems (namely the GTbyCitreon which is BRILLIANT!). Even greater is their suspension system which can smoothen out some of the roughest roads out there. (Found on Autoblog) | |||||
