Three awesome iPhone OS 3.0 apps

Part of yesterday’s keynote at WWDC,three great applications were demoed for the new iPhone OS 3.0.

First of,we have ‘Find My iPhone’that Apple is releasing that works with their MobileMe service. Basically you can log in from a computer and it will use the iPhone GPS (and A-GPS) to locate the phone. You can even send a message notifying the user to return the phone,or have the phone start beeping (even if it’s silent). Finally,if you really don’t think you will be getting your phone, then you can remotely erase everything on the phone.

tomtomacc

Next,Tomtom is first up to bat with turn-by-turn navigation for the iPhone with a accessory to mount your iPhone on your windscreen, charge it (and maybe transfer audio, but that hasn’t been made clear). It look spretty good, and has a very easy and clear interface, but as you can imagine,is probably not going to be free. I wonder if map updates will be though?

zipcar2

Finally,ZipCar came out with a great little application for the iPhone that will use the Google Map extension to display available cars in the vicinity, pull up information about the cars, and even proceed to book them straight from your iPhone. One other cool feature that I want to see demoed on video is the ability to have the car honk it’s horn and unlock it’s doors right from the application. Not bad ZipCar…not bad at all.
