“That look’s so nice”. “43″Widescreen monitor = drool”. There’s more than one person,and more than one site that has posted an article about how amazing NEC’s new monitor looks. I am here to tell you,it is ugly and old.
First of,the ugly. While it looks amazing in that one shot,have you seen this photo of it?
That thing is really,REALLY fat. And ugly. And Fat. I am all done for curved displays,and super widescreen displays. But they need to be sleek and elegant. They also need to have a much higher resolution than 2880×900. 900 pixels?? Are you kidding? My Macbook Pro is basically the same resolution as half of that monitor. So while it may be 43″wide,it’s resolution is the equivalent of two 15″Apple Macbook Pro monitors.
On to my next point…it’s not new. Check out the below monitor that Alienware was toting at CES back in January of 2008…look familiar?

So to summarize. A $7,999 monitor that looks like that,and is not new,is a no buy for me. Sorry NEC. Maybe next time?
